Answers to commonly asked questions:
How can you help my child?
I absolutely love the moment when one of my students has that 'aha" moment and I watch a big, confident smile cross their face and a huge sigh of relief come from deep within. Most students that come to me are struggling and are already very frustrated. My first reaction to this is to assure him or her that I offer a safe enviroment where they can freely share their frustrations. I encourage my students to think with a growth mindset which says "I will be able to conquer this but not yet." During the "not yet" season, I will find out where their lack of comprehension is coming from, which is usually just foundational gaps, and put together a plan to fill in these gaps at the pace the student is comfortable with. This cannot be rushed!
What does a typical session look like?
I offer lessons virtually through Zoom and in person in either my home or yours. I keep everything organized digitally through Google Drive which you will have access to at all times. For online lessons through Zoom, I will send an invite the day before that you should accept and join at the agreed-upon time. We will work simultaneously through Google Drive or through my online whiteboard. For in-person sessions, you will bring whatever you are working on. If I am supplying the curriculum, I will have it ready at the start of the session. Once a session is completed, I will provide detailed feedback that will be accessible to those that are shared on the Google Drive account.
Will you work with my child's teacher?
Yes, I would be happy to work directly with the student's teacher. I believe that the more connected the tutor and teacher are, the more beneficial it will be to the student.
Do you teach adults?
Absolutely!! I am very passionate about adult learners because I was one myself years ago. I can relate to the frustration and stress of going to college with a family and working a full-time job. Are you preparing for the GED? I can certainly help with that. Have you found yourself in college years after high school and can't remember how to write an essay or how to multiply fractions? Look no further; I have you covered. You are never too old to do what you set your mind to.
What ages do you teach?
I teach from age five through adult in reading and seven through adult in writing. For math, I teach grades kindergarten through eighth.
Do you teach small groups or classes?
Yes!! Many students prefer to have one-on-one instruction with me and then there are students that thrive within a small group setting. This is sometimes favorable for parents that are looking for a more budget-friendly option. I have taught many small groups that consisted of five-ten students in my home or at a homeschool co-op. These classes are lively, interactive, and require teamwork. I have a reward-based system that encourages participation among my students which has had huge success in the past.
